There are few skills more useful than good listening.
Develop good listening skills and you will be better at understanding other people, better at communicating with them and better at getting your own point across too.
First Tip for Good Listening
1. GoodListening requires good timing.
Pick the right time. If you are rushed or stressed or distracted or involved in another activity, GoodListening cannot happen. If this is not a good time for you to listen, let the person know when is good and then set aside time. If you want someone to listen to you, start by checking if it is a good time and be prepared to wait if it is not. If this is a really important conversation, stop what you are doing and make listening your priority. Make it clear that you are available to listen and that this time is good for you.
